He did his postdoctoral training at the University of British Columbia. He has over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry, having worked for established architectural firms in Montreal and Vancouver. He specializes in the integration and optimization of information flows within the value chains of the built assets industry. Erik is president of the Quebec BIM group, a member of the board of directors of buildingSMART Canada and director of the Standards Council of Canada’s mirror committee for ISO technical committee 59 – technical committee 13 (ISO TC59-SC13).
Professor Poirier works with various public bodies, including Public Services and Supply Canada (PSSC), the Société Québécoise des Infrastructures (SQI), the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité Durable (MTMD), NGOs including buildingSMART Canada and the Groupe BIM du Québec, as well as members of the built assets industry, to fully understand the challenges, expectations and needs of digital transformation.
The doctoral work of prof. Poirier focused on multidisciplinary collaboration facilitated by BIM. More recently, he has been researching integrated teams, improving their performance and the various strategies for doing so, including integrated delivery modes.
The work of prof. Poirier on this subject are intended to facilitate the implementation of approaches aimed at the sustainability of the built environment. At the same time, it is developing solutions to support the transition to a circular economy in the built environment. In particular, it develops strategies to ensure the traceability of products and materials and their information throughout the life cycle of built assets.
